FENIX

Did you Know?

In men living in the community, fecal incontinence occurs in 6-10% and increases slightly with age.

The FENIX® Continence Restoration System:
Restore control, regain confidence

Figure 1: FENIX Device

Accidental bowel leakage (also known as fecal or bowel incontinence) is the inability to control your bowel movements, causing stool to leak unexpectedly. The primary cause is due to damaged or weakened anal sphincter muscles.

The FENIX Continence Restoration System is a flexible ring of magnets designed to support a weak sphincter muscle, keeping the anal canal closed to prevent accidental bowel leakage.

How Does FENIX Work?

The FENIX device is a small, flexible band of interlinked titanium beads with magnetic cores (Figure 1) that is placed around the anal canal in the closed position (Figure 2). The magnetic beads will separate temporarily to allow the intentional passage of stool (Figure 3). The magnetic attraction between the beads then brings the device back to the closed position to prevent unexpected opening of the anal canal that may lead to accidental bowel leakage.

Who can benefit from FENIX?

Patients with accidental bowel leakage who are not candidates for or have previously failed conservative treatment and minimally invasive therapy options (e.g., injectable bulking agents, radiofrequency ablation, sacral nerve stimulation) may be candidates for the FENIX Continence Restoration System.

Ask your doctor if you may be a candidate.

Humanitarian Device: Authorized by the Federal (USA) Law for use in the treatment of fecal incontinence in patients who are not candidates for or have previously failed conservative treatment and less invasive therapy options (e.g., injectable bulking agents, radiofrequency ablation, sacral nerve stimulation). The effectiveness of this device for this use has not been demonstrated.
